Create multiple currencies

Describes how an administrator can create multiple currencies in Optimizely Configured Commerce.

Creating multiple currencies in the Admin Console in Optimizely Configured Commerce allows customers to choose which currency they view while shopping on a website.

📘

Note

For multi-currency conversions to be used, the Pricing Service Setting must be set to Generic.

In this scenario, the user wants to create the United States dollar as the default currency and the Euro as a secondary currency. Currencies will not appear on the website until they are assigned. Below are the steps for creating multiple currencies.

  1. Go to Admin Console > Administration > Currencies.

Currency fields are generally added during implementation. If the currencies were not added, a No Records Found button will appear and the currencies will need to be entered manually. Click the button to continue.

  2. Click Add New Currency.

  3. Populate the Currency Details with the following information:

    1. Currency Code – USD
    2. Description – United States Dollar
    3. Currency Symbol – $
    4. Default System Currency – Check this toggle to make the United States dollar the default currency for the website Because the United States dollar is the default currency in this scenario, the Currency Rates field is not populated to create a Conversion Rate.
  4. Click Save and Add to save changes. Next, the Euro is added as a secondary currency for customers.

  5. Click Add New Currency to add a new currency

  6. Populate the Currency Details with the following information:

    1. Currency Code – EUR
    2. Description – Eurozone currency
    3. Currency Symbol – EU currency symbol
    4. Default System Currency – This toggle is no because the United States dollar is the default currency

Because the Euro is not the default currency, the Currency Rates field must now be populated to create a conversion rate against the default currency. In this scenario, the Euro conversion rate is set against the dollar.

  7. Under the Rates finger tab click Add Currency Rate.

  8. Select the date and time to make the currency conversion active.

These boxes will auto-populate with the current date and time if no changes are made.

  9. Populate the Conversion Rate. In this scenario the conversion rate is 1.37 against the default currency.

  10. Click Save in the Secondary Header to save changes.

The currencies can now be assigned to a website.

  1. Go to Admin Console > Websites

  2. Click Edit on the website the currency will be assigned to

  3. Click the Currencies finger tab

  4. Click the add Website Currency button

  5. Select the Currency Code from the drop-down list

  6. Make sure the toggles for Default Website Currency and Live reflect the appropriate choice

The toggle for Live for each currency must reflect Yes . Failing to do so will result in the customer not having access to the currencies.

  7. Click Save in the Secondary Header to save changes

The website now has the modified currencies and conversion rates.
