Get started with CMS 13 for users

Learn how to get started with Optimizely CMS 13 as a user. Access documentation, SDKs, and APIs to manage content and launch experiments.

Optimizely Content Management System (CMS) provides powerful web content management capabilities, available through an intuitive user interface, letting experienced and occasional users work efficiently with content.

See also Release notes.

When your Optimizely system and related services are set up, you will receive the permission keys and credentials needed to access the user interface. Your setup depends on what parts of the Optimizely platform you have in your implementation, such as Optimizely Content Management System (CMS) or Optimizely Commerce Connect, Optimizely Campaign, Optimizely Search & Navigation, and the products in the Optimizely Personalization suite.

Log in to CMS

As an editor or administrator, you log in to your website using a specified URL, a login button, or a link. Enter your username and password in the Optimizely login dialog box, and click Log In.

After logging in, what you can do depends on your implementation and access rights that control the options you see. The Optimizely quick access menu displays in the upper right corner when logged in.

Selecting CMS Edit displays the edit view and other system parts.

CMS implementations

You can set up your CMS implementation with the following products:

  • Optimizely Opal – Optimizely Opal is an agent orchestration platform that helps you work smarter across Optimizely One. Opal is directly connected to your workflows, fully aware of your brand, and powered by hundreds of tools to assist with marketing and digital tasks. Use of Opal features incurs credit charges.
  • Opti ID – Opti ID is the single sign-on (SSO) solution for Optimizely products. It provides a single login point where you can switch between your Optimizely products with just one authentication. It also provides a single location to manage your users for each Optimizely product.
  • Optimizely Content Marketing Platform – Optimizely Content Marketing Platform (CMP) brings teams together to share plans, collaborate on assets, and execute campaigns. CMP lets you see the work your marketing organization is doing, including the entire content workflow—from brief to finalized content.
  • Optimizely Digital Asset Management (DAM) – DAM is a centralized solution for storing, organizing, and sharing digital assets—including images, videos, and documents—that integrates directly with Optimizely CMS 13. Compared to the standard CMS assets panel, DAM delivers advanced capabilities like metadata handling, robust filtering and search, version control, and asset renditions optimized for different platforms. When you integrate DAM with CMS 13, DAM enables asset tracking to monitor which CMP assets are in use, and the embeddable DAM feature lets editors insert assets directly from the DAM library within the CMS edit interface. DAM also includes built-in AI features for image generation, with Optimizely Graph serving as the delivery channel for both CMS content and DAM assets to the frontend.

    Note

Optimizely requires that you use Opti ID to embed Optimizely Digital Asset Management (DAM) in Optimizely Content Management System (CMS 13). To sync DAM and CMS, you must first provide your instance with Optimizely Graph service capabilities, see Enable Optimizely Graph service to sync DAM and CMS.

  • Optimizely Digital Experience Platform (DXP) – Optimizely Digital Experience Platform™ (DXP) offers a cloud-first approach to standout engagement, including high availability and performance, easy connectivity with other cloud services and existing systems, the ability to manage spikes in customer demand, and a platform that is ready to adopt the latest technology updates seamlessly.
  • Optimizely Graph – Optimizely Graph uses GraphQL to provide powerful search and filtering capabilities. The client application can specify exactly what content it needs, making content consumption more efficient and faster.
  • Optimizely Connect Platform – Optimizely Connect Platform (OCP) lets you connect and sync data between external systems and Optimizely products, including between two Optimizely products themselves. OCP provides a UI for importing data, installing apps, and managing data syncs with other Optimizely products. If you have the paid version of OCP, you can also view your OCP database.
  • Optimizely Data Platform – Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) harmonizes customer data, which leads to a deeper understanding of your customers' behaviors in real time. ODP collects, stores, and makes available the most relevant data for your business by adhering to a few core concepts:
  • Optimizely Commerce Connect – Manage products, discounts, and orders. Enrich product information with text and images, create discounts for sales campaigns, manage markets, and work with orders.
  • Optimizely Configured Commerce – Manage products, discounts, and orders. Enrich product information targeted towards B2B customers with text and images, create discounts for sales campaigns, manage markets, and work with orders.
  • Optimizely Apps – CMS 13 provides various apps (add-ons), such as Optimizely Opal chat, a TinyMCE spellchecker, and more.
